Happy Truck Day!!

As one chapter in sports ends on Sunday with the Super Bowl, another begins today for sports fans around the nation…today is truck day. Now, if you are not a Boston Red Sox fan, you might not understand the significance of today, but as my BoSox friends have been telling me for weeks…today marks the beginning of baseball season for the Boston Red Sox! All of the Sox gear for spring training is loaded up on a truck beginning on Monday and then hauled down to Florida for spring training. Driver Al Hartz, who has been making this trip since 1998 should arrive in Fort Myers by Thursday. Pitchers and catchers report on Sunday.

Of course the Red Sox aren’t the only team headed to spring training next week. The Texas Rangers are shipping out to Surprise, Arizona, where hopefully the surprise will not be that Micheal Young is no longer a part of the team. Young has requested a trade from the team, but general manager Jon Daniels and club president Nolan Ryan have said that a deal would have to be in the best interests of the ballclub.¬†Other early season concerns for the Rangers are signing big hitter Josh Hamilton to a long-term deal and determining if pitcher Neftali Feliz will remain as the closer or be moved into the starting rotation.

Regardless of who is your favorite Major League baseball team, you can be sure to catch all of the games with MLB Extra Innings at Third Base. I will be sporting my Red Sox wristbands on game day and I am sure you will see Stix wearing his Yankees hat. Considering the ice and snow we have had lately, I personally can not wait for warmer weather (this weekend right?) so that I can sit out on the patio and enjoy a frosty beverage. Have you heard that our downtown location has the big 22 oz. draft beers now? $3 on Monday – can’t beat it! Sounds like the perfect place to watch a game – Let’s Play Ball!
